My Freshman Year Chapter 4: This chapter of the story was very interesting learning about all of issues and things that happen when you are an international student or when international and american students mix. I personally believe that everything is equal between everyone, I would not treat my roommate who was a different skin tone or different ethnicity but that's just me. In this reading, I read how american students tend to face several struggles and give their international roommates a hard time. For example, I read about 2 international roommates rooming with a american student and the 3 of them just didn't get along at all. The american roommate was never there and very protective of her things. Issues that occur in roommates like those make me upset because I know that this is something that happens because I have seen it happen on my floor last year. I don't agree with american students being protective of their things and not making an effort to try and become friends with people of different ethnicities. One thing I really enjoyed about this article was that it states that culture could be invisible to it's natives which is coming I completely agree with we are so quick to judge a book by it's cover then to actually get to know someone and learn about there culture. Culture is so important to so many people and it is always so forgotten in conversation or when beginning to get to know someone.

Mind at Work: I chose to do chapter 1 about waitressing because I have a lot of experience as a waitress. Since I was 14 years old I worked as a waitress in a retirement home and it was a great first job and an amazing learning experience for jobs for me in the future. This reading has made so many great points about how important work is, and how it gives you a sense of power especially as a waitress. A waitress grows several great qualities doing her job; a great memory, a feeling of being needed by people, a great flow of work ethics, a sense of power, and many more great things to have as a person. It's not just about the waitressing job that will give you all of those things but that is the example being used, and reading between the lines you see that being your own individual and doing work for other people does make you a better person. I always felt needed by people and wanted to give them the best dining experience no matter how I felt that day because they deserved it. You never know by doing such a small job such as waitressing that you can really brighten someone's day by just taking their order. Although it is work, waitressing does give you a sense of satisfaction and makes you have a sense that you really did a job well done. And that was my favorite part about being a waitress always being able to do something great for other people even if it was something small.
